DG ISPR confirms Pakistani troops have been stationed in Saudi Arabia for decades

Rawalpindi: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has confirmed that Pakistani troops are stationed in Saudi Arabia, saying the deployment is part of a defence relationship between the two countries that has continued for several decades.

In an interview with CNN, the military spokesperson said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had maintained close defence ties for years, with Pakistani military personnel serving in the kingdom for decades.

Lt Gen Chaudhry said the Pakistani personnel deployed in Saudi Arabia under the Makkah agreement belonged to different domains and formed part of the longstanding security cooperation between the two countries.

He noted that the defence partnership between Islamabad and Riyadh remained an important element of their broader security relationship.

Pakistan has also recently reiterated its commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security. In an earlier interview, the DG ISPR said Islamabad stood with the kingdom both diplomatically and physically, with Pakistan’s commitment also covering the protection of the holy sites in Makkah and Madinah.

The latest remarks come as the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye is being implemented. The Pakistani military has described the agreement as a defensive arrangement aimed at strengthening collective deterrence and supporting regional stability.
