On November 8, 2020, the glorious Azerbaijan Army under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Mr. Ilham Aliyev liberated the city of Shusha, which is of great importance for the Turkish and Islamic world, from the Armenian invaders. Thus, the occupation of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur was once and for all ended. Two days after the liberation of Shushan, on November 10, Armenia signed a trilateral declaration. Aghdam, Kalbajar and Lachin regions were returned to Azerbaijan without a fight.

The 44-day long Patriotic War was written in golden letters in the history of Azerbaijan. 20 percent of the country’s territory, which has been under occupation for nearly 30 years, was liberated as a result of the People-Army-President unity. Of course, the role of Azerbaijan’s friends – Turkey and Pakistan – was also important in this victory. This union tied the hands of Armenia’s patrons and minimized their intervention in the war.

The lands were liberated against the background of lightning-fast war tactics and the moral and political support of brother Turkey and Pakistan to Azerbaijan. More than 80 percent of the Armenian army was disabled on the battlefield in the war conducted with the use of the most modern weapons. For the first time in the last 200 years, Azerbaijan was able to get its lost lands from the enemy. The creation of a second Armenian state on the territory of Azerbaijan was not allowed. The claims of the so-called Nagorno-Karabakh Republic were thrown into the dustbin of history.

The period of the presidency of Ilham Aliyev, who has been leading Azerbaijan since 2003, that passed until the beginning of the Patriotic War can be considered as a period of preparation for restoring its territorial integrity for our country. During those years, President Ilham Aliyev patiently and wisely waited for the political conditions that would ensure victory. Even the public of the country witnessed a number of surprises during the war, a stronger army than imagined, more modern weapons. It was more unexpected for the enemy.

The shocked Armenians were destroyed as a result of the crushing blows they received in the first days of the battle, and the survivors left their fighting positions and fled. They could not even protect Shusha, which was considered an impregnable fortress city surrounded by mountains. Being the cradle of culture, Shusha has a very symbolic meaning for Azerbaijan.

Currently, rebuilding and construction works are being carried out on the liberated  lands from occupation. Within 2 years, 2 international airports were built and put into use in Karabakh. In addition, smart village and city projects are being implemented, highways, bridges, and tunnels have been built. Electric lines have been laid in almost all areas of Karabakh. Unlike Armenia, which is isolated from regional projects, Azerbaijan has managed to create a completely new landscape in the region with transnational projects.

The UN General Assembly, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other organizations support Azerbaijan today. 4 resolutions of the UN Security Council demanding the immediate withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan remained on paper for 27 years. Armenia refused to implement the resolutions every time. Although some international organizations expressed their so-called support for Azerbaijan, they did not put real pressure on Armenia and tried to resolve the conflict through negotiations.

The head of the last government of Armenia, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan tested Azerbaijan’s patience by saying “Karabakh is Armenia, dot ” and did not leave a choice. The result cost for Armenia a lot. Armenia lost not only the war and its domestic and international reputation was destroyed.

The President of the country, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mr. Ilham Aliyev at the Victory parade which was held in Baku on December 10, 2020. said: “This parade had a special significance. Many parades have been held in Liberty Square in Baku.

However, this parade has a special significance. This is a Victory parade. This is a historical event.” Emphasizing the special significance of the Victory parade one of the highlights was that this great event demonstrated to the whole world that the unity of Azerbaijan-Turkey-Pakistan is getting stronger and stronger. During the 44-day Patriotic War and after it, the state flags of Turkey and Pakistan were raised with the national tricolor flag in every part of Azerbaijan and waved together.

Let our union, our brotherhoods be forever!
